Why An AED On-Site Matters

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any age, with no warning.

Around 25,000 Australians suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year, and without intervention the survival rate is as low as 5%. The single biggest factor in survival is how quickly a defibrillator reaches the patient.

  • Every Minute Counts — when a shock is delivered within the first minute, survival can be as high as 90%.
  • The Clock Is Brutal — for every minute without defibrillation, the chance of survival falls by around 10%.
  • Don't Solely Rely on Ambulance Response — the average ambulance response can be 8–11 minutes, which is often too long to wait.

An on-site defibrillator bridges that gap. A defibrillator is designed to be used by anyone.

It reads the patient’s heart rhythm, decides whether a shock is needed, and guides the rescuer step by step with clear voice prompts.

Having one within reach turns bystanders into life-savers.

Compliance & Local Service

Under Australian WHS law, employers must provide adequate first aid.

Safe Work Australia guidance recommends considering a defibrillator wherever there’s a cardiac arrest risk or quick ambulance access isn’t guaranteed — common across Tasmanian worksites, events, and remote sites.

Hiring helps you meet that duty of care without capital outlay, and every unit arrives serviced, tested, and in date, with hire documentation available for your records.

ProMED Tasmania is local and delivers statewide — Hobart and the south, Launceston and the north, Devonport, Burnie and the North-West Coast, plus regional and remote sites on request.

Hire Terms & Conditions

  1. Hire Period & Rates: Charges are calculated from the agreed start date/time to the agreed end date/time. Part-days are charged as full days. Rates include GST and are subject to change; quoted rates are confirmed on booking.
  2. Payment Terms: Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the hire fee and any bond are payable in full at the time of booking. Accepted payment methods will be set out in the booking confirmation. Overdue accounts may incur interest and reasonable recovery costs, and equipment will not be released until payment has cleared.
  3. Condition & Testing: All units are tested and supplied in working order with in-date pads and battery. The Hirer must inspect the equipment on receipt and report any fault immediately. ProMED Tasmania is not liable for failure caused by misuse, tampering, or use outside the manufacturer's guidelines.
  4. Hirer Responsibilities: The Hirer is responsible for the equipment from delivery until collection/return, must keep it secure and dry, must not attempt repairs, and must replace single-use pads after any deployment (replacement pads charged at cost).
  5. No Transfer or Sub-Hire: The Hirer must not lend, sub-hire, sell, or otherwise part with possession of the equipment, and must not move it to a different site or event, without ProMED Tasmania's prior written consent.
  6. Delivery, Collection & Late Return: Delivery and collection arrangements and any associated costs will be confirmed on booking. The equipment must be available for collection or returned by the agreed end date/time. Late returns are charged at the applicable daily rate for each day (or part-day) the equipment is overdue, without affecting any other right of ProMED Tasmania.
  7. Equipment Substitution: Where the requested model is unavailable, ProMED Tasmania may supply an equivalent or superior unit at no additional charge.
  8. Use In An Emergency: An AED is a life-support device. The Hirer is responsible for ensuring it is accessible, that staff know its location, and that any deployment is followed by a call to emergency services (000). After any use, notify ProMED Tasmania so the unit can be serviced and pads replaced.
  9. Training: Hire does not include training. An AED is not a substitute for proper CPR and AED training, and the Hirer is responsible for ensuring that those who may operate the device are appropriately trained and competent to do so.
  10. Loss & Damage: The Hirer is liable for the full replacement value of equipment lost, stolen, or damaged beyond fair wear and tear, plus any cleaning, repair, or restocking costs.
  11. Insurance: The Hirer bears the risk of loss of or damage to the equipment for the duration of the hire and is responsible for insuring it for its full replacement value, or otherwise accepts liability for any loss or damage in accordance with these terms.
  12. Security Bond: A refundable security bond may be required at the time of booking and must be paid in full before the equipment is released. The bond is held against loss, damage, late return, missing accessories, or cleaning and restocking costs. Any such charges will be deducted from the bond, and the balance refunded within 14 days of the equipment being returned and inspected. Where charges exceed the bond, the Hirer remains liable for the shortfall.
  13. Cancellation: Cancellations more than 48 hours before the hire start incur no fee. Within 48 hours, a 50% fee applies. No-shows are charged in full.
  14. Liability: To the extent permitted by law, ProMED Tasmania's liability is limited to the hire fee paid. Nothing in these terms excludes rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
  15. Acceptance: By submitting this form, the Hirer acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Hire Terms & Conditions. The date and time of submission will be recorded as the time of acceptance.
  16. Governing Law: This agreement is governed by the laws of Tasmania, Australia, and the parties submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of that State.
