ProMED Tasmania is a wholly Tasmanian-owned and operated medical services company, and every member of the team lives here. We staff the medical tent at events. We move patients who need a stretcher but not a siren. We train people to hold a situation together until help arrives. And we supply the kits, defibrillators and consumables the rest of it runs on.
Four parts of one business — event medical and first aid services, non-emergency patient transport, training and education, and equipment and supplies.
How It Started
Damien Almond and Keelan Currie, both registered paramedics, had spent years in Tasmania's pre-hospital and first aid sector and kept seeing the same gaps.
Workplaces sold generic first aid training by trainers who'd never worked in the field. Event organisers who couldn't find cover they could rely on. Businesses paying premium prices for equipment that wasn't worth it. Hospitals and aged care facilities holding patients who needed a stretcher, not an ambulance, and waiting.
So they built the business they'd been trying to hire.
ProMED Tasmania started in April 2021 — Damien, Keelan and nine clinicians, with a plan to close all four gaps. Training came first, with public CPR and first aid courses in St Helens and Burnie that June, followed by event work in August at the Festival of Bright Ideas. Supplies grew by being asked. Non-Emergency Patient Transport took the longest, and deliberately so: more than twelve months building the fleet, the clinical framework and the crew credentialling before our licence was granted in April 2026.
Today all four run side by side, out of Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, covering the state.
The Size of It
We're Tasmania's largest private provider of pre-hospital and first aid services. Big enough to put crews at fifteen events on the same weekend, and still the kind of outfit where the person who quotes your job turns up to it.
- Clinicians & Staff — 82 employees across the state: medical responders, BLS medics, ALS medics, patient transport officers, registered paramedics, nurses, doctors and administration staff.
- Event Medical & First Aid — 262 events in 2025, up from 219 in 2024 and 184 in 2023. From a 200-person community sports day to multi-day festivals with 15,000+ attendees.
- Non-Emergency Patient Transport — our newest service, licensed in April 2026, running low- and medium-acuity transports for hospitals, aged care providers, NDIS participants and families.
- Training & Education — 8,153 participants trained in our courses and education programs since April 2021.
- Equipment & Supplies — 287 workplaces, clubs and community organisations supplied and serviced.
- Vehicles — three stretcher vehicles, three 4WD stretcher vehicles, two patient transport buggies and two electric response mountain bikes.
- Communications & IT — our own digital radio network of portable, mobile and base radios, plus field-deployable repeaters. Deployable IT with a VoIP phone network, Starlink connectivity, electronic patient care records and live event reporting.
Who We Are, On Paper
ProMED Tasmania is a wholly owned business unit of Pro-Services Tasmania Pty Ltd (ABN 86 666 756 609), a Tasmanian-registered private company.
Pro-Services Tasmania Pty Ltd is the legal entity behind everything with our name on it. In practice, one company holds the lot:
- Event Medical & First Aid — crews, contracts, insurance, and the scope of practice to which each clinician is credentialled.
- Non-Emergency Patient Transport — our licence under the Ambulance Service Act 1982 and the Ambulance Service (Non-Emergency Patient Transport) Regulations 2019, and the vehicles and clinical authorities that sit under it.
- Training & Education — we are not a registered training organisation ourselves. Our nationally recognised training is delivered under partnership agreements with Allens Training (RTO #90909) and Health Security & Education (RTO #40907).
- Equipment & Supplies — our authorised distributor agreements with Aero Healthcare and Ferno, and the servicing obligations that come with selling defibrillators.
Our Department of Health pharmaceutical licences sit across the clinical side of that, authorising the medicines our clinicians carry and governing how they're stored, checked and audited.
Insured, and Able To Prove It
Every part of what we do carries cover appropriate to it, held by Pro-Services Tasmania Pty Ltd and applying across all four services.
- Public & Products Liability — $20 million. Covers our crews on your site, our vehicles at your venue, and the equipment we sell and service.
- Medical Malpractice & Professional Indemnity — $10 million. The clinical cover that matters for event medical and patient transport work, and the one most general liability policies don't include.
- Workers Compensation — all employees, as required in Tasmania.
- Commercial Motor — the full fleet, including our licensed non-emergency patient transport vehicles.
Our registered paramedics, nurses and medical practitioners also work under professional indemnity arrangements that meet their AHPRA registration requirements.
Event organisers, venues and councils: we'll provide a certificate of currency on request, and we can note your organisation as an interested party where your permit or venue agreement requires it.
Hospitals, aged care providers and NDIS coordinators: our transport cover, licence details and clinical governance documentation are available for your procurement file on request.
