Frequently Asked Questions

What is NEPT?

Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) is for clinically stable patients who require medical supervision during transport but do not need emergency care.

How much notice is needed for a booking?

We recommend at least 24 hours' notice where possible. Urgent same-day bookings may be accommodated depending on availability.

Who can request NEPT services?

Referrals can be made by hospital staff, GPs/doctors, aged care facilities, family members or the patient themselves.

Can someone accompany the patient?

Yes, one support person may travel with the patient where appropriate and vehicle capacity allows. This must be confirmed at the time of booking.

Is there a cost for NEPT services?

Cost depends on the service type and referral source. There may be some funding available for certain patients. Pricing and cost will be advised at time of booking.

Do you transport children?

Yes, we are authorised to transport children aged 2 years and over with patients aged 2-14 years requiring a clinical escort and accompaniment by a carer or legal guardian.

What areas of Tasmania do you cover?

We operate statewide, including metro and regional areas (excluding Bass Strait Islands). If you're unsure or would like confirmation, just call us to check availability in your area.

What if the patient becomes unstable during transport?

Our crews are trained to manage changes in condition. If needed, we escalate to emergency services and coordinate hospital transfer immediately.
