Hospital staff, GPs, aged care facilities, family members or the patient can all request a transport.
Eligibility
Who Can Travel With Us
NEPT is for clinically stable patients who need supervision on the way, but not emergency care. The patient must meet all of these:
Clinical Condition

Aged 2 or older
-
Clinically stable, and not expected to deteriorate during transport

No acute or time-critical medical needs

Vital signs within normal range for their age

Not aggressive, violent or unpredictable
Care Needs

Under 150 kg
-
No airway support, ventilation or high-flow oxygen (over 8 L/min)

No intensive care, or paediatric or neonatal transport

No physical or chemical restraint
We check eligibility when you book and again when the crew collects the patient. Not sure? Call us to talk it through. We can arrange a Clinical Escort if the patient needs one.

What is NEPT?
Non-Emergency Patient Transport is for clinically stable patients who need medical supervision during transport but don't need emergency care.
How much notice do you need?
At least 24 hours where possible. We can sometimes take urgent same-day bookings, depending on availability.
Who can book a transport?
Hospital staff, GPs and doctors, aged care facilities, family members or the patient.
Can someone come with the patient?
Yes, one support person can travel with the patient where it's appropriate and there's room in the vehicle. Let us know when you book.
What does it cost?
It depends on the service type and who is referring the patient, and some patients may be eligible for funding. We'll confirm the price when you book.
Do you transport children?
Yes, from age 2. Patients aged 2 to 14 need a clinical escort, and a carer or legal guardian must travel with them.
Which areas do you cover?
All of Tasmania, metropolitan and regional, except the Bass Strait islands. Call us if you want to check your area.
What if the patient's condition changes on the way?
Our crews are trained to manage changes in condition. If needed, we call emergency services and arrange hospital transfer straight away.
