Tasmania, the moment is here. ProMED Tasmania has been formally licensed by the Tasmanian Department of Health to operate as a Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) provider for low and medium-acuity transfers — and we couldn't be prouder to share the news.

Reaching this milestone has taken months of preparation, careful planning, and an unwavering belief in what patient transport in this state can look like. It's an achievement that belongs to every member of our team and to everyone who believes Tasmanians deserve a higher standard of care between point A and point B.

In the weeks ahead, you'll see our NEPT operations come to life across the state — purpose-built vehicles on the road, trained crews behind the wheel, and a service built around safety, professionalism, and genuine compassion for every patient we carry.

To our team, our partners, our referrers, and the community that has cheered us on — thank you. This isn't a finish line; it's the start of something we've been working towards for a long time, and we can't wait to share the road ahead with you.

What Our NEPT Service Looks Like

ProMED Tasmania provides professional non-emergency patient transport built around one idea: that getting a patient from bedside to destination should never feel like a transaction. Our crews deliver care that is safe, clinically appropriate, and unmistakably human — every kilometre of the journey.

We're here for patients heading to medical appointments, moving between facilities, returning home after a hospital stay, or accessing specialist care. Whatever the reason for the journey, comfort, dignity, and continuity of care travel with them.

As a fully licensed private provider of Low and Medium Acuity NEPT under Tasmanian law, ProMED Tasmania operates within a clear framework of clinical governance, safety, and quality. Our crews are trained to the standards required by the licence, and our practices align with the regulator's expectations from the first call to the final handover.

What Sets ProMED Tasmania Apart

  • A skilled, supported crew: Every officer is trained in first aid, manual and patient handling, infection prevention, and clinical care, with clinical backup available throughout each transport.
  • Care that feels like care: We treat each patient as a person first — focused on dignity, comfort, communication, and safety from pickup to drop-off.
  • The whole state, around the clock: Whether the trip is across town or coast-to-coast — Hobart to Huonville, Strahan to Swansea — we're available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Coordinated and on time: We pride ourselves on punctuality and clear communication with referring facilities, stakeholders, families, and patients.

Our People, Vehicles and Services

Our People

Our NEPT operations are powered by experienced Patient Transport Officers and Clinical Escorts who take their work seriously and care for our patients. Ongoing training, professional development, and rigorous background screening are built into how we hire and operate — because clinical excellence isn't a one-off; it's a habit.

Our Fleet

Each vehicle in our NEPT fleet is fitted with modern medical equipment, climate-controlled interiors, and secure patient restraint systems designed with comfort and safety at the forefront. We make servicing schedules and compliance checks non-negotiable to keep our vehicles roadworthy and regulator-ready every day they're in service.

Our Services

We work alongside hospitals, aged care providers, medical clinics, and private households across Tasmania. Day to day, that means inter-facility transfers, hospital discharges, outpatient appointment runs, community access transport, and palliative and respite transfers — each one delivered with the same standard of care.

Who Can Travel With Us

To make sure NEPT is the right fit for the patient, every booking is assessed against the following criteria:

  • The patient is aged 2 years or older.
  • The patient is clinically stable.
  • The patient is not expected to deteriorate during the journey.
  • The patient has no acute or time-critical medical needs.
  • The patient weighs less than 150 kg.
  • The patient does not require airway support, ventilation, or high-flow oxygen (>8 LPM).
  • The patient does not require intensive care, paediatric, or neonatal transport.
  • The patient does not require physical or chemical restraint.
  • The patient is not aggressive, violent, or unpredictable.
  • The patient's vital signs sit within normal parameters for their age.

Where does a patient sit on this list? Get in touch — our team is happy to talk it through and can arrange a Clinical Escort if needed.

Eligibility is reviewed twice: first by our office team at the time of booking, and again by the NEPT crew on collection, to confirm the patient is suited to non-emergency transport.
